 Lanarkshire’s War

When casualties had been repatriated to Lanarkshire many spent time in War Hospitals or convalescent homes.

There were Auxiliary Hospitals throughout Lanarkshire. Properties such as Drumpellier Auxiliary Hospital (Coatbridge), Douglas Auxiliary Hospital, Hillpark Auxiliary Hospital (Bothwell), Cambuslang War Hospital, Hartwoodhill Auxiliary Hospital, Auchtyfardle Auxiliary Hospital (Lesmahagow), and Dalzell Auxiliary Hospital (Motherwell) provided locations for further hospital treatment.

Owners of large houses, such as the Provost of Airdrie at Meadowside House, also played their part offering space for convalescence homes or simply entertaining the recovering casualties.
